The Poets: M. Ugulini -”The Forbidden Zone”
Forbidden Zone
Like Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes
I travel the water’s edge along the beach
to the Forbidden Zone
- though I’ve no Nova clinging
to me on horseback –
her soft flesh pressing against my skin
her black hair blowing in the wind.
Moving further from many traditional things
into an unknown land – no sinister simian
like Dr. Zaius
warning me of my destiny
under a bright blue sky
just my white-hot thoughts and desires
standing clear of countless crumbling spires.
Air as warm and thick as fevered blood
I’m sticking to my plan this long July
enough is enough
only so many tears
can flood my eyes
as I watch my generation on the brink
getting so much closer than we think.
